Gastric plication is an operation to reduce the volume of the stomach, which is achieved by suturing the stomach in the vertical direction, without resecting the organ and imposing anastomoses. It can be performed both by abdominal access and laparoscopically. During the operation, a fold is formed along the greater curvature from the cardiac to the pyloric section, which is wrapped inside the stomach and strengthened with multi-row sutures or staples. After gastric plication, the stomach takes the form of a narrow tube with a capacity of about 100 ml. Unlike sleeve gastrectomy, gastroplication is a reversible operation. In the future, gastroplication can be supplemented with other bariatric surgeries.
