Reiter's syndrome (disease) is a rheumatic disease characterized by a combined lesion of the urogenital tract (urethritis and prostatitis), joints (mono- or polyarthritis) and the mucous membrane of the eyes (conjunctivitis), developing sequentially or simultaneously. At the heart of Reiter's syndrome is an autoimmune process caused by an intestinal or genitourinary infection. Treatment includes antibiotic therapy for the infection and anti-inflammatory therapy for arthritis. Reiter's syndrome has a tendency to relapse and chronicity of the process.
