Curettage of the cervical canal is an invasive method for diagnosing the pathology of the mucous membrane of the cervical canal, based on instrumental removal of the surface layer of the epithelium, followed by morphological analysis of the biopsy specimen. Indications for the procedure are glandular hyperplasia of the endocervix, polyps of the cervical canal after their removal. Endocervical curettage is used to exclude or confirm the diagnosis of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical cancer when abnormal results of colposcopic or cytological studies are obtained in combination with the presence of highly oncogenic HPV strains. The technique of curettage of the cervical canal consists in mechanical removal of the surface layer of the endocervix using a small sharp curette. Complications after manipulation are extremely rare.
