Intravesical immunotherapy in Russia
Intravesical immunotherapy is a method of antitumor biotherapy based on the introduction of the BCG vaccine (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) into the bladder cavity. It is used to prevent recurrence of bladder cancer after transurethral resection. With the intravesical administration of the BCG vaccine, tuberculous mycobacteria stimulate local immunity, thereby providing an antitumor effect. Intravesical immunotherapy is performed in two stages. The induction course begins 2-3 weeks after the operation and includes 6 weekly instillations of the vaccine. Supportive therapy is carried out according to the scheme: 3 weekly instillations of BCG every three months during the first year, every six months during the second and third years after trans urethral resection.
