On August 8, 1989, a significant event in the history of Eastern Siberia took place – the opening of the Irkutsk branch of the MNTC "Eye Microsurgery". The opening date of the branch became symbolic, as it coincided with the birthday of the General Director of MNTC MG, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS, Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Svyatoslav Nikolaevich Fedorov. It was from this moment that a new era in the development of ophthalmology in our region began.
The Irkutsk branch implements the innovative ideas of its teacher, S.N. Fedorov, its own scientific developments, returns people's eyesight, the opportunity to live and work. Today, the Irkutsk branch, creatively embodying the latest organizational and technological ideas, has achieved significant success in the field of ophthalmic surgery and ophthalmology in general. This became possible as a result of the rapid growth of professional skills of all medical and service personnel of the branch.
On the basis of our branch, the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment of patients using the most modern equipment are being introduced. A lot of scientific work is carried out in the branch, dissertations are defended, monographs are written, inventions of Irkutsk doctors receive patents. Over the years, an Interterritorial laser Surgery Center, children's and outpatient departments have been opened. Branches are being established in the cities of the Irkutsk region and ophthalmological offices in polyclinics of the city. Today, the Irkutsk branch includes offices in the cities of Bratsk and Ulan-Ude, on the basis of which surgical and laser operations are performed for patients in remote regions.
In general, the Irkutsk branch provides high-tech ophthalmological care to the population of a large region, including Eastern Siberia, Sakha-Yakutia, Buryatia, Transbaikalia, it is a base for transferring accumulated experience of ophthalmologists from various cities and regions of our country. The quality of services, modern technologies, training of the highest class specialists, the level of patient care – everything here is in tune with the modern trend of the time. Without exaggeration, the ISTC can be called an oasis in the healthcare of the Siberian Federal District.
Over 30 years, the Irkutsk branch has conducted more than a million examinations, operated on more than 700 thousand people.
The motto "Beautiful eyes for everyone!", as before, is a parting word for action. Today, the branch is one of the three leaders of the ISTC in many areas of ophthalmic surgery.
