Corpectomy in Russia
Corpectomy (corpectomy) is a surgical tactic that involves the removal of the vertebral body and adjacent vertebral discs. Indications for surgery are primary tumors and metastases, vertebral fractures, infectious processes (osteomyelitis, tuberculous spondylitis). It can be done endoscopically or in the traditional open way. After access to the injured vertebra, discectomy is performed first, followed by resection of the vertebral body using a high-speed drill, nippers, and osteotomes. Finally, corporodesis is performed - an autograft cut from the patient's rib or ilium, or an allograft from a donor bone, is placed in the place of the removed vertebra.
